Good news from the gallery last night....the above piece of work, "Lovers" sold and they called to say that I need to replace it with another piece...there is a hole or open place in the gallery display. Unfortunately there is no place at the gallery to have an extra couple of pieces of work to put out on the wall if a piece is sold. No storage space at all..all we have is a large closet like space that holds the security system, ladder, tools, file cabinet...small stuff to keep things running at the gallery.
So this morning I had to put it in gear and create a new piece to replace the size that was purchased as the only work I have hanging around is duplicate of what is on the wall right now. So, printed off the little boy cowboy image, colored it with colors pencils (my favorite thing to do in this process), sewed the image to the background dyed fabric and then machine quilted the background piece...now I need to stretch it, back it and we're good to go.....the replacement. It's now around 2pm in the studio and it's too hot to sew anymore...will have to wait to finish it tomorrow.
It's great to have a larger sale...I've had about four other smaller sales, but when you sell a larger piece, then that's what this is all about. Knowing that I've had this type of sale helps me judge what else to create and have out there on the walls. And I've been asked to be the featured artist in January (I know January isn't the greatest month, but you know what..it's an opportunity and I'm going to make the best of it)...I get to put up 2-D and 3-D and that's a plus for me..and I get to put up work that has not been juried into the gallery..my larger work and that's a plus also.
Spent many hours yesterday planning out the next 16 months for California Fiber Artists and then myself..planning on what pieces I needed to create for what upcoming exhibit, when I needed them complete and when they needed to ship. So now I have the next six exhibits planned out to the best that I can right now and I have a ton of work to create..but that's how I like to work. I know there will be a few extras in there that come up, but I plan for that also. When you are retired, you have a ton of time...what matter is how you use it!!!!
