New Work, Catching Up With Other Projects

Finished "Overspill" yesterday and hung today....hard to see the background black..it's machine quilted with gold threads and looks great against the finished net piece....I took layers of netting w/tinsel and "stuff" inside the netting and covered back/front with water soluble plastic...sewed through all the layers all over the surface to make sure everything was sewn down and then put it under the kitchen sink faucet and washed the plastic away ... and what I had was a new piece of fabric.....made two actually..one darker than the other...after drying, I cut each up into strips and then wove them back together to form the image...before I wove the strips I did sew crystals and beads up/down each strip of net fabric...once the image was all together, then I put on the beads/crystals at the top.....it sat for a while until I machine quilted the background black piece this past Fri/Sat..stretched the back to stretcher bars and placed the image onto the black background..finished off the back for hanging with wire.  30" x 28"............project complete.

I also fixed up an old wallet my son-in-law asked me to repair...sewed the complete wallet back up again..it's was falling apart...man's wallet so there were not snaps or anything..just layers of used leather.  Now it's as good as new and ready for use again.  My granddaughter Sami asked me to put on her Brownie/Girl Scout patches onto her vest...I just can't image someone who doesn't know how to sew my hand, but her Mom doesn't, so I sewed them all on this morning with the machine and they will never fall off again.  I think the scouts need to teach their girls how to sew on their own badges and give them a badge to prove it.
And now I'm about to go out and draw up a banner design for the Waldorf school my daughter teaches at...this summer they have asked me to create 6 outdoor banners that will be hung from light poles in their school parking lot...28" w x 60" long...made out of out door fabrics....need to draft up the design and make a sample out of regular fabrics to make sure that's what they want and then I'll purchase the special fabric off the internet and get to work creating two sided banners this summmer...they need to be done and installed before school in September so I have time, but once the design and color is set, I'm working on them as I HATE LAST MINUTE work..............I like to be done way ahead of time so I have time to make changes or correct things in time for the final showing.
I also had to create something for something else...my husband has cronic back pain and he now wants to wear his old back brace...he actually has two and niether one fit him, so I cut them up and created one that does fit...but wow, what a contraption....I went out and bought him a newer version at the drug store and I'm hoping this will work better than the other old school things.  There isn't much that I haven't sewn on my little machine...pool table cover, back brace, wallet, purses, jeans anything that needle will go through I'll try.
